{Newborn fluff} Review: Imagine Newborn Stay-dry AIO

J at 2 months old & 4.5kg in Imagine Newborn AIO
Description: The Imagine Newborn Stay-dry AIO diaper is a miniature version of their one-size stay-dry AIO. It consists of a waterproof PUL outer and a microfleece interior lining, with sewn-in layers of microfibre which provides absorbency. The diaper comes in a choice of velcro or snap closures and has no rise adjustment. For this review I tested the velcro closure option.

First impressions: These are pretty basic looking diapers and come in a limited selection of bright solids and a few prints. The microfleece interior is buttery soft and the velcro seems really sturdy, similar to the velcro on the other diapers in the Imagine range of products. This diaper seems like it can size down pretty small judging by how tiny the leg openings gets on the smallest waist setting. For the price, the quality seems good. [Rating: 3.5/5]

Ease of use: Since these are all-in-one and sized, using them couldn't be easier - simply fasten on your baby. You don't have to adjust anything or stuff anything. With the velcro version you do have to remember to fasten the velcro to the laundry tabs when you take the diaper off your baby, but even in a sleep-deprived mom-of-newborn state that's not too difficult to do. As for washing and drying, these washed up pretty well and I found they didn't hold onto stains as easily as some other newborn diapers. Drying time was not too bad for an AIO, no doubt owing to the synthetic fibres used, which generally dry quicker. [Rating: 5/5]

Fit: These fit J from the start of our cloth diapering journey at 2.2kg, however I did have to be careful to fasten the velcro exactly  right to overlap the tabs on his waist in order to get the legs to fit snugly. The diaper looked a bit poufy on initially, especially around the hips, though bear in mind that J was tiny.  Fit improved as he grew, though it always remained one of the bulkier newborn AIOs in our stash.  He outgrew the rise and waist of these faster than other newborn diapers - around 2.5 months was the upper limit for us with this diaper. I did find myself wishing the rise was just a little higher so we could use these a bit longer though, but at that point he had also outgrown the absorbency of the diaper.  [Rating: 3.5/5]

Value for money: These are very affordable and I think fair value for what you're paying. If you're looking for a cheap, yet well made newborn AIO diaper, then I'd say Imagine is a good buy.   [Rating: 4/5]

Performance: These diapers contained everything they were supposed to - from pee to the most explosive newborn runny poops. I consider J to be an average to slightly above average wetter and we started having the occasional pee leak from about two months - this was about two weeks ahead of the other newborn AIOs we had. By 2.5 months he had completely outgrown the absorbency. Since he also outgrew the diaper size-wise at that point, there wasn't extra space to add additional absorbency.

Overall impression:  This diaper didn't blow my mind, but at the price I didn't expect it to. It's a very plain, yet very functional diaper. I loved the buttery soft microfleece interior and that it dried faster than our other AIOs.If you're looking for an easy-to-use, no frills attached, affordable diaper for the newborn phase,  you will enjoy the Imagine Newborn Stay-dry AIO.
