Review: Poopsie Daisy Hybrid Fitted Diaper

Description: The Poopsie Daisy Hybrid Fitted Diaper** consists of a printed outer layer of 100% woven cotton, a layer of hidden fleece and an interior fleece lining. Each fitted comes with two lay-in inserts - one bamboo insert topped with fleece and one cotton/hemp insert.  They are available in mini, size one, size two or one-size-fits-most and feature a fold down rise to enable you to adjust the fit to your baby. The diaper I am reviewing here is the one-size-fits-most version. Poopsy Daisy Hybrid Fitteds fasten with snaps around the waist.

** Poopsie Daisy diapers are customisable - the fabric used for the outer layer, interior lining and inserts can be changed on request when doing a custom order. They may also change from stocking to stocking. Basic construction of the diaper, sizing, etc however is fixed at this stage. The detailed description above is for the diaper I reviewed and is one of the most common options available at stockings.

First impressions:  In terms of quality of fabrics used and construction of the diaper, Poopsy Daisy is top notch. The diaper has evolved quite a bit from the first few that were released and is on par with the hybrid fitteds available in the US. The prints available at each stocking is varied and I love that there are also many boyish prints on offer each time. The jungle animal print that I have (shown in the photos here) is absolutely adorable and even cuter in real life than it appears online. The fleecy interior is super soft and the diaper has a lovely squishy feel to it.  [Rating: 4.5/5]

Ease of use: I would say these are average in terms of ease of use - it does require a two-step approach (diaper plus cover) to be fully waterproof, but this is true of all fitteds. The loose lay-in inserts means that you can easily customise absorbency without having to worry about snap positioning. If you have not used a fold-down rise before, it might some getting used to, but is quite easy to get the hang of. When you take the diaper off, you can simply pop it directly into the diaper pail - no inserts to unstuff or unsnap and no laundry tabs to worry about. Like most fitteds, this diaper takes a fair amount of time to dry. [Rating: 4/5]

Fit: I love how well these diapers fit around J's legs and waist. I also love the fact that there is space for extra inserts to boost the absorbency, without compromising fit sans the extra inserts. At over 8kg we are still using the fold-down rise on J and there is still plenty of room to adjust in the waist as well, so I feel like these will fit well on bigger babies/toddlers as well. These aren't trim diapers, but then I don't expect overnight-worthy fitteds to be particularly trim. The woven cotton outer does make for a slightly less customisable fit vs a cotton jersey outer; however the woven stays looking nicer for longer, so you need to weigh up what is more important to you.  [Rating: 4/5]

Value for money: For a handmade item and the type of fabrics used, I find these to be a good price. And they don't just look good, they also work very well. [Rating: 4/5]

Performance: We predominantly use Poopsie Daisy for night-time diapering and with an extra bamboo or hemp insert it lasts 10 - 12 hours without any leaks. J feeds throughout the night and I consider him to be an above average wetter at night. During the day J can go for about 3 hours without a cover and the diaper won't be damp on the outside. I have not tested it much during the day though, so can't fully comment on absorbency for day. [Rating: 4.5/5]

Overall impression: An excellent local WAHM offering - cute prints, great fit and very absorbent. This diaper is a firm favourite in my overnight diaper stash and I will definitely be getting more of them.

While I aim to provide detailed, objective reviews of all the diapers that I've used, please bear in mind that this is my opinion and that every mom has her own preferences and every baby is built differently. So what works well for me and J, might not necessarily work well for you and your baby. J was 6.5 months old and weighed approximately 8kg when these photos were taken.
