Review: Funky Fluff Lux

Description: The Funky Fluff Lux is a one-size three-in-one system. According to the manufacturers it can be used as AIO, AI2 and pocket. It has four rows of rise snaps on the front to adjust the sizing and two snaps on each wing to adjust the waist/hip size as well as a hip snap on each wing to prevent wing droopage. It also has cross-over snaps on the wings to make the waist even smaller. The shell is lined in either bamboo, AWJ (athletic wicking jersey) or microsuede. The diaper comes with two bamboo inserts which can either be snapped into the shell or stuffed into the pocket, depending on how you want to use the diaper. The large insert consists of 6 layers of a 80% bamboo/20% polyester blend while the smaller insert (which snaps onto the large one) consists of 5 layers of the same bamboo blend. For purposes of this review I tested the bamboo shell plus inserts.

First impressions: The Lux range is available in a variety of more unusual solid colours with contrasting colour snaps (which IMO looks really awesome) and a limited selection of prints. The gender-neutral print shown here is the stunning Maritime. This diaper seems to be really well made with thoughtful details such as the PUL strip across the tummy, contoured inserts to help with a trim fit in the crotch area and snaps front and back to keep the inserts from shifting around.  The bamboo fabric is very soft and the PUL is super silky. [Rating: 4.5/5]

Ease of use: There are a couple of ways you can use this diaper - stuff the insert(s) in the pocket opening or snap them in to use it as an AIO/SIO. With the stay-dry lining options (AWJ or microsuede) you would thus be able to choose stay-dry against the skin (ie use as pocket) or natural fibres against the skin (use as SIO). Since I have the bamboo shell, it doesn't make a difference for me, in all cases it's natural fibres against J's bottom. I find snapping an insert in simpler and easier than stuffing a pocket, so we most often use it as SIO. Having said that, the pocket is generous enough and open on both sides which makes stuffing it quite easy and there is room for added boosting should you need it.  The advantage of using it as SIO is that you don't have to unstuff the insert when taking the diaper off and putting it in your diaper pail. I do prefer unsnapping it when it comes out of the wash to speed up drying time though. The downside of the bamboo lining on the shell is that it takes longer to dry vs the stay-dry fabrics. The inserts also take a while to dry as is expected of natural fibres. [Rating: 3.5/5]

Fit: Let me start off by saying the fit of this diaper was amazing from the second we put it on, I didn't even need to fiddle with it. It is super trim and I just love the cut of the diaper - nice and trim in the crotch, perfect amount of back coverage and the wings are sized just right. I mean just look at these photos - it looks amazing on J. At almost 12 kg we still have room to grow and I feel like this would be a great fit on a range of sizes and shape given the four rise setting options and the fact that you can adjust the waist and hips seperately with the two rows of snaps at the waist. [Rating: 5/5]

Value for money: These are definitely on the pricier side when compared to other AIOs, however you get a lot of bang for your buck with the choice of interior lining and two very thirsty inserts. [Rating: 3.5/5]

Performance: This diaper holds up really well, the inserts can absorb quite a bit and the bamboo interior lining adds a little extra absorbency as well. J hovers between light and medium wetter at the moment (gotta love unpredictable toddler pee) and I've never had to worry about possible leaks with this diaper. I did not try it for overnight as J's bum is not a fan of PUL overnight, however I think it could work for light to possibly medium wetters with some added boosting. [Rating: 5/5]

Overall impression: The Funky Fluff Lux is a high quality, thirsty diaper with an awesome fit. Perfect for under clothing or going out when you want a trim, yet dependable diaper. I highly recommend getting one (or a few!) for your stash.
