Review: Mom’s Happy Nappy SIO (Rolled elastics)

Description: The Mom’s Happy Nappy SIO with rolled elastics consists of a waterproof PUL outer, micro suede interior* and a snap-in insert. The snap-in insert is a petal-style with the middle snap-in booster snake-style (an extra long insert). The inserts are made of layers of hemp fleece and cotton fleece and topped with a soft minky layer. The nappy has three rows of rise snaps on the front to adjust rise as well as 2 waist snaps to adjust the fit around baby’s hips and waist. The nappy also comes with two snap protectors which is great for when the waist setting is at it's maximum.

*The shell interior and the insert top layer can be customised according to personal preference

First impression: The nappy is made to perfection, sewing is super neat and the alignment of snaps perfect, just as I have learned to expect from this WAHM. Her products are impeccable. I was very excited to test the rolled elastics.

Ease of use: Being a SIO this nappy is fairly easy to use. Just snap-in the inserts and put on baby. The petal-style inserts snap into the shell and the snake insert snaps in between the petal-style inserts. The snake insert can be folded to adjust to your baby’s wetzone (usually in the front for boys and in the middle for girls). When soiled, you just put the nappy in the dry pail as-is, no need to unsnap the inserts. Drying time is average since natural fibers take longer to dry, drying time is shortened however if the inserts are unsnapped and dried separately.

Fit: This nappy fits beautifully, it’s trim and comfortable. The rolled elastics increases the comfort level significantly, they create a good seal around the legs, ensure a good fit and are gentle (especially on chubby legs).  The nappy has a great shape since it's nice and narrow between the legs but wide enough over the bum area for maximum coverage. It is currently on the middle rise setting for my nappy wearing 1 year old (11kg). I also tested the fit on a tall almost 4 year old (18kg) and the fit was great, however all rise snaps were open and the waist snaps at it's maximum.

Value for money: This nappy is well priced, especially considering it is a handmade nappy with quality fabrics and luxury details (like rolled elastics).

Performance: It performed really well for us on my light to medium wetter. With my absorbency tests the inserts held about 205ml**. The cover, depending on what interior lining you choose will also absorb some additional moisture. That means this nappy is definitely suitable for medium day wetters and can easily be boosted to suit heavy day wetters. We experienced no wicking at the elastics, even while baby wearing and having baby in a car seat.

** The value is conservative and only taken after all possible moisture has been wrung out of the nappy

Overall impression: I am very impressed and excited about this nappy. It gives a great (and gentle!) fit over different ages and body types and it will hold up without boosting for most babies/toddlers. I will definitely be adding some more of these to my own stash.
